چکیده

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common psychological disorder for which the preferred treatment is with stimulants (methylphenidate). With medication administration to young children becoming exceedingly common, it is important to investigate the neurodevelopment consequences of doing so. Much of the imaging literature that suggests neuroanatomical differences in ADHD patients has not considered the effects of lifetime medication administration in their samples. Animal studies have demonstrated that acute methylphenidate administration to juveniles causes significant brain structure changes. A multi-dimensional examination of the current literature assessing the structural differences in ADHD with respect to medication administration is the focus for this review. It is concluded that the current administration of methylphenidate to young ADHD patients should be reevaluated to incorporate the possibility for medication-induced neurodevelopment.

Laminar Thickness Alterations in the Fronto-Parietal Cortical Mantle of Patients with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder

Although Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) was initially regarded as a disorder exclusive to childhood, nowadays its prevalence in adulthood is well established. The development of novel techniques for quantifying the thickness of the cerebral mantle allows the further exploration of the neuroanatomical profiles underlying the child and adult form of the disorder. To examine the c...

A comparison of the efficacy of medications for adult attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder using meta-analysis of effect sizes.

OBJECTIVES Medications used to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adults have been well researched, but comparisons among drugs are hindered by the absence of direct comparative trials. Our objectives were to (1) estimate the effect size of the medications used to treat adult ADHD, (2) determine if differences in the designs of studies confound comparisons of medication ef...
